Walker Church Council
March 31, 2015
Present: Allyson Hayward, Bonita Blumenauer, Greg Garman, Walter Lockhart, KC Bretzke, Al Hildenbrand, Mary Parker, Nancy Larsen.
The minutes were approved as corrected. There is no “h” in Blumenauer.
KC gave the financial report. We are $9000 in the hole, with prospects for improvement. Jennifer Gahnstrom is cutting her hours from 20 to 16. Walter has candidates for the position of bookkeeper. KC is stepping in as a temp. There is significantly more church space usage than before.
Al reported for the Trustees. The parsonage sold for $180,170. That money will go into a fund for lang range development. The heating and cooling systems in the church building continue to run well.
Al reported for the Staff Parish Relations Committee. They have scheduled a May 16 training session for a safer church which Walter is chairing. Policy and expectations will be discussed with perhaps some role playing.
KC discussed fundraising. Lulu Philips is chairing two rummage sales and two silent auctions, spring and fall. Walter is cooking an elegant meal to raise funds for the community meals. Mary mentioned the upcoming play “America’s Next Top God,” the Holy Fool Celebration, and the cabaret as fundraisers.
Mary reported for the Celebration Committee. There will be different colored banners for the whole church year. Walter added that there will be a mini retreat on a summer Sunday morning to discuss what we value in the Celebration.
Greg reported that the Kitchen Cabinet is hosting a community meal on April 21.
Walter gave the Pastor’s Report. We are about to apply for licensure for the church kitchen. He will be taking an unpaid leave from July 1 to August 15 to run Star Lake Camp. Walter suggested having another service, a different service at another time to begin in the fall. It could be run by him or not. The Sunday School is going to be reorganized by age. Walter has suggested to the Conference that he be appointed to another half time position in a church, so he can work full time. The deadline of that decision is May 1, 2015.
The meeting was adjourned. The next Church Council meeting will be May 26, 2015.
