Scripture Reading Isaiah 61: 1-3 by Mary Parker
The Spirit of God is upon me, because God has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted. God has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted; To proclaim liberty to the captives, to proclaim the opening of the prison to those who are bound! God has sent me to comfort all who mourn; to give them a living garland of flowers instead of ashes; to give them the oil of gladness instead of mourning; and the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. And then they will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of God, and God will be glorified!

From Deb Ramage, Peace with Justice Chair: I have been asked by a coalition of peace and justice groups if Walker Church, or Walker Church Peace and Justice Committee, will be an endorser of the Anti-war march occurring March 21. Walker Church is the end-point of the march and presumably there will be a rally and/or speakers here. (That’s already arranged.) A couple of other faith groups are already in on it, as well as the Anti-war Committee, MayDay Books, the Minneapolis Green Party, AFSCME Local 3800, and several more. If anyone wants to comment on this, contact me at deborama@gmail.com before February 9. If I don’t get any negative feedback, I will tell the organizers to list us as endorsers.
From Councilmember Alondra Cano’s office: As part of the Minneapolis Bicycle Master Plan there is a plan to stripe a bike lane on 31st street. Since there is a resurfacing scheduled for 31st street from Bloomington to Hiawatha for this summer the bike coordinator was thinking that this would be a good time to stripe the bike lane on that section. We would like to add a dedicated bike lane which would necessitate removing the parking lane on the South side of the street. Having had the pleasure of hosting an event at your church I am aware that parking gets tight in the area. This is borne out in the traffic counts that the Public Works Department has conducted. I know there is additional pressure from the Post Office during business hours.
Walker Church will schedule a meeting with the bike coordinator.
Sanctuary Art Project is underway with the first round of wrapped sticks installed. Materials, a description and directions are available in the back of the sanctuary. Please feel free to pick out a stick and wrap it anytime and it will be added to the whole. In short, the project is intended to symbolize each of us ‘finding our place in the circle’ by creating a ‘talking stick’ to represent the importance of each person’s voice within the power of community. I am available to gather a group by the fire to work on this project together. 612/718-9134 Adel Gardner
