Opening Smudge
Lao Tzu # 12 Stephen Mitchell translation followed by 5 minutes of silence
Colors blind the eye.
Sounds deafen the ear.
Flavors numb the taste.
Thoughts weaken the mind.
Desires wither the heart. The Master observes the world
but trusts his inner vision.
He allows things to come and go.
His heart is open as the sky.

Welcome, Announcements & Offering
Scripture Reading Mark 10:46-52 by Nancy Larsen
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.

Remember the Mother Emanuel 9 Prayer Service: Wednesday, October 28, 7 pm. Nine black people were shot dead at a Bible study and prayer service at Mother Emanuel AME in Charleston, South Carolina on June 17, 2015. This was a racially motivated attack. Those who died were: Rev. Clementa A. Pinckney, Cynthia Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lance, DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel L. Simmons, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, Myra Thompson. The Minnesota Council of Churches is setting up a year-long series of weekly prayer vigils. Every Wednesday evening, some congregation in Minnesota will be hosting a prayer service about the Mother Emanuel AME shootings. We will be holding the Mother Emanuel AME congregation and families of victims in prayer, repenting of systemic racism, and asking God to heal our country. In addition to the wonder of prayer, one of the values is to keep this experience in front of one another as an opportunity for witness and change.
