Finance Minutes February 15, 2017
Walker Church Finance Committee
February 15, 2017
Present: Jan Werness, Carrie Feldman, Walter Lockhart
2016 Year End Report – We finished the year with a deficit of $16,007. This is because we
paid all of the 2016 apportionments ($14,384). In 2015 we did not pay apportionments and had
a deficit of about $1000.
There are two adjustments that need to be made yet before the 2016 year is finalized. These
include interest on the RBC account and a donation, for total additional income of about $1500.
Carrie will make these adjustments before sending the reports (2016 Custom Summary & 2016
Profit and Loss by Class) out to the council.
The final deficit amount will be transferred from reserve to operating so that we start the year
with a zero balance.
January 2017 Report – Looks good.
Promissory Note – Jan signed the authorization amend the promissory note and raise the
interest (per emails exchanged in January). Carrie will follow up to get a copy with the lender’s
signature as well as the amount of interest to be paid. Last year we paid the interest all at once
early in the year. We should do the same this year.
2017 Apportionments – At the next finance meeting we should discuss paying this year’s
apportionments.
Donor Letters – Walter will write a thank you letter to go out to folks who donated money to
Walker in 2016.
Standing Rock Fundraiser – Standing Rock water protectors did not get the tents and stoves as
anticipated. Shortly after we collected the donations, Standing Rock asked people to leave and
therefore they no longer needed the tents and stoves. The stoves were already purchased and
probably can be returned but will have a significant shipping cost. We need to let donors know
that Standing Rock did not get the benefit of their donations, and ask if they want their money
back. That needs to be done before the donor letters are sent out as we can’t certify donations
that are returned.
New Church Questions – Carrie and Walter will get together Friday to clarify who is doing
what regarding employees.
Carrie’s Vacation – Carrie will be out of town for 10 days. Payroll will be prepared and signed
on Monday, February 20th.
