When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs–in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”
But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.” But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Bluegrass and Old Time Music Jam: Mon, May 25, 7 pm to 10 pm. Coming late and leaving early is okay. The jam is for folks of all abilities. It is not necessarily church music. Everyone, who wants to, gets to choose and lead several songs. Listeners are also welcome.

Prisoner letter writing night: Thurs, June 4, 7 to 9 pm. The first of letter-writing nights that will happen the first Thursday of every month at Walker with a different prisoner is featured each time. It is a chance to hang out, write to prisoners, and discuss anti-prison issues and activities with other rad folks! Sponsored by our Peace with Justice Committee. It can be viewed Tuesdays 5:30 to 6:45 during the Community Meal and Sunday mornings. Summer Solstice Interfaith Ceremony 7:30pm to 8:30. The intent of the Ceremony is to present a spiritual experience that is genuine and presented by Pagans in a non-Pagan space AND to be as inclusive and inviting to other faiths and traditions while doing so. Dance the Creation for the Walker Celebration
The Creation Dance will be performed again during the celebration on May 31. THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME FOR NEW PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE!! If you did not participate last time and would like to this time around, please see Janet Skidmore after the celebration or contact her at 612-965-3335, or at janetskidmore56@gmail.com. It would be nice for the final run of the dance this year to see a mix of old and new faces dancing. Anyone aged 9 years and older is welcome and you need have no previous dance experience, although having some athletic ability like being a runner or swimmer is helpful. And of course, you are welcome if you were in the dance before and would like to do it again!
Something Under the Sun Minneapolis Collective of Pagan Artists Exhibition
MCPA is proud to join with the Walker Community United Methodist Church to present an exhibition of contemporary Pagan art. This is perhaps the first time in the Twin Cities metro area, if not the region, in which an exhibit of art by Pagans has been exhibited in a Christian church with the intent of furthering interfaith relationships.
The Minneapolis Collective of Pagan Artists are a group who work in a variety of media and styles with a shared spiritual and cultural philosophy. We are all contemporary Pagans and our artwork comes from that perspective, which includes seeing the Divine in many Gods and Goddesses, a reverence for nature, and respect for ancestral traditions.
We are also interested in using our artwork to familiarize people with contemporary Pagan culture –especially those who may not be familiar with this spiritual path. This form of interfaith work can foster community connections that may otherwise not occur; this dialogue is as important to us as the physical work itself.
“Something Under the Sun” celebrates the waxing of the year and the nearness of the Summer Solstice. The MCPA, along with a curated group of select guest artists, will be displaying a variety of works in an array of media (including photography, painting, ceramics, and collage). All works will explore and honor this most light-filled time of year.
Since we are guests at a Christian church, we note with particular interest that Summer begins in the Christian calendar with the festival of St. John the Baptist: there are many similarities between activities taking place on this Feast Day and what many Pagans do while at Summer Solstice events. Pagans may learn more about their traditions as well as teaching others about Paganism through this art exhibition and this Service.
After the Interfaith Service there will be a Celtic-myth inspired musical performance in the Sanctuary, by Hugin the Bard, as well as refreshments. In addition, there will be a 1-day print shop and MCPA artists will be on hand to both discuss and sell work.
