| Hello Walkerites, Friends & Visitors Here are the announcements. Note from Pastor Katy: What a week, ya’ll! We are having some FANTASTIC conversations with Ebony, a woman who will eventually be doing food service for the building (serving both Walker and New City!) and starting some fantastic programs here for children and youth. Do you like food and cooking? Want to help dream with Ebony? Perhaps be a sous chef for her and Brian on Tuesdays? Let us know! ALSO, we are starting some new and interesting things. This October 6 we are starting something called “Not your average Bible study” at Pastor Katy’s house. This will be a light lunch of soup and bread at Katy’s (mine, ha) house on the west side of Powderhorn park at 12:30 pm. This first “NYABS” will involve reading Rob Bell’s book “What is the Bible?” Don’t want to read it? That’s okay too. We will be talking about what IS the Bible, and why does it even matter. Bring your favorite problematic scripture passage ideas we can talk about. All are welcome. RSVP by October 5th to Katy: My email is revkatylee@gmail.com. Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’ 3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’ 5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. Meal served 5:30pm to 6:45pm. Free, everyone welcome. Volunteers are needed, please sign up! Walker Singers Rehearsal: 7pm after Tuesday meals, in the sanctuary. October 6 is BYO ANIMALS TO CELEBRATION SERVICE! We will be blessing your animals. Bring ’em on in. Let us know if you have pet allergies and we can do our best to accomodate/be outside. October 13 we will be having a “future of the UMC” conversation with New City church from 12-1 pm! Bring your questions and ideas Tony Wentersdorf will be teaching a 6-week interactive songwriting class (“Songwriting Workshop”) at Southwest Community School from Sept 30 to Nov 2 from 6:30-8 p.m. Areas covered: song structures, Rhymes, “hooks,” and various music genres, including, country, folk, and classic rock songs. Student will be encouraged to write their own songs. Tony has been writing songs for almost 50 years and is an active member of MAS (Minnesota Association of Songwriters). New City Update: As most of you know, New City Church is a growing spiritual community that has been meeting primarily in the upstairs dining room at Walker Church. New City has outgrown the space upstairs, and has requested the use of the sanctuary at least twice a month. New City has been contributing a substantial amount toward our budget, and we expect that as they continue to grow they will contribute more. The Walker Church Council would like to get your feedback on some ways for both congregations to be able to use the building. In our preliminary discussions, we thought of the following two options. Please do some brainstorming and discuss the options. Any questions that you have can go to me. I will bring them to the next Council meeting for further discussion. First option is Walker uses the Sanctuary on the first, third, and fifth Sundays and New City uses the Sanctuary on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, or New City uses the Sanctuary on the first, third, and fifth Sundays and Walker uses the Sanctuary on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. The advantage of this arrangement is that we always know when we are in the sanctuary, and can plan ahead. The disadvantage is that we will find it harder to schedule events such as Easter, Christmas, and Day of the Dead when we will want the sanctuary for special performances and setups. Second option is that both Walker and New City both use the sanctuary on Sunday, Walker at 9:00 AM and New City at 11:00 AM. The advantage of this arrangement is that we always have the sanctuary on Sunday, and can plan special celebrations without reference to “our” Sunday. The disadvantage is the we will have to be done with our celebration and completely out of the sanctuary by 11:00. We should plan on having our coffee hour upstairs in the dining room at 10:30 or when celebration is over. New City will have to have storage space and do some setup before 9:00 so they will be ready to go at 11:00. Thanks in advance for your ideas! Lulu Philips, Council Chair.
