Finance Committee Meeting Minutes
October 14, 2016
Members present: KC Bretzke, Linda Berglin, Rev. Walter Lockhart, Carrie Feldman.
Apologies from the chair for confusion of back and forth emails rescheduling the meeting.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written (thanks, Carole)
Carrie’s review documentation was signed for delivery to SPRC.
We reviewed the September and Year to Date finance reports in the new versions sent yesterday by Carrie, which compared 2015 and 2016 YTD. We are $9631 behind last year in individual donations but up $4326 in rentals. Fundraisers for the year are down $4263 from last year, but we know that the fall rummage sale brought in $1500 more than last year and we have hopes that the Art Fair will do better than last year also. We are doing fewer fundraiser this year than last. Hopefully we can make up some of the slack with an end of the year appeal. Carrie will forward the financial report to the Trustees and the Council when she is able to clean up a glitch in the statement of balances.
We agreed to recommend renewal of the Powderhorn Empty Bowls fiscal agency agreement. KC signed the document anticipating Council approval; it will be forwarded after the Council meeting if approved.
Powderhorn Empty Bowls needs us to count money at their event November 4. Jan will pair with Carrie for the late afternoon shift but we still need one of us to join her on the 11-3 shift. KC volunteered to do it if Carole is not available.
The CSM (Spanish speaking ministry out of Simpson) personnel are being added to our payroll, as we (i.e., Carrie) are doing their bookkeeping. Carrie wrote checks to 7 people, which is more people than expected. She will seek clarification on who is staff (e.g., administrator)vs. contractors (e.g., janitorial, teachers, child care workers, musicians). CSM staff will be treated fiscally as Walker staff through 2017.
Walter may be asking for us to provide similar services to the Wesley Foundation.
Carrie will send out a draft 2017 budget next week.
The next meeting will be 5pm, Wednesday, November 9. The December meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 14.
