Remember the Mother Emanuel 9 Prayer Service: Wednesday, October 28, 7 pm. Led by Pastor Walter Lockhart with readings, times of silence, music by the Walker Singers & Kent Eklund and discussion on the next steps toward becoming an anti-racist society.
The Death Café: Thurs, Oct 29, 7 to 10 pm in the dining hall Standard Death Cafe program. Also included will be a brief introduction to “Samhain.”
Walter & Roxanne Lockhart’s 50th Birthdays Celebration: Sat, Oct 31, 1 to 3 pm. No presents please. If you wish you can make a monetary donation for the Walker Community Meals or bring a donation of non-perishable food to the Simpson Food Pantry.

Converging Visions Fall Local Showcase: Thurs, Nov 19, 7 pm. Featuring Steve Clarke and some of his top private students. Steve is a well know saxophonist in the Twin Cities and currently performs with Louis & Clarke, The Working Stiffs and Other County Ensemble. Performance will start at 7pm and will be followed by a short Q&A about being a working musician in the Twin Cities. Tickets are $5. Questions? Powderhorn Empty Bowls: Friday, November 6, 11am to 7pm in the Powderhorn Park Building. 35th St. & 15th Ave. South in Mpls. Come together with your friends and neighbors for a community meal of bread and soup to help raise money to feed those who are hungry in our neighborhood.
The Health Sciences Orchestra will play a concert “Honoring Our Veterans:” Sun, Nov 8, 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove Street, Mpls 55403. Admission is free. The Wells Foundation is presenting the concert, and a freewill offering will be taken to support programs offering assistance to homeless veterans. The Orchestra is conducted by Stephen J. Ramsey. The program will include the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto, Elise Molina, piano, “Finlandia” by Sibelius, and an orchestral suite by Minnesota composer Randall Stokes. Jim McCreary plays Horn in this orchestra.
Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers (MAP)-Annual Celebration: Tues, Nov 10, 6:30 – 9:00 at the Perpich Center for the Arts. The theme is “Intergenerational Activism for Peace” and will include guest speaker, Rose McGee. And information on a recent MAP action – letters sent to the Hennepin County Commissioner & Board members requesting the UN flag be restored (noting the UN’s 70 year anniversary) to the Hennepin County Government Center Plaza and that MAP would provide the flag. Instructor: Anne Sawyer-Aitch. Bring a line from your favorite poem or quote and learn how to render it in beautiful silks to create an inspiring gift. You’ll discover stiches to create embroidered script for wall, pillow & clothing.
Luminaries/Paper Lanterns: Sat, Nov 14, 9 m to noon
Instructor: Gustavo Boada. As the daylight lessens and the cold steps up, winter invites us to create warmth and radiance with gorgeous paper lanterns! Illuminate your home and decorate for holiday celebrations. Using Bamboo sticks and paper we will create beautiful luminarias in this class. Materials fee: $ 4
Ojibwe Beadwork: A Path to Understanding: Sat, Dec 5, 9 am to noon
Instructor: Julie Boada. Spend a cozy morning sipping cider and learning the basic techniques of applique bed work. You will create a simple project and leave with the skills to continue beading you dreams. This beautiful art form reflects the traditions, costumes, culture and history of the indigenous people of the area. Materials fee: TBD.
