The great Way is easy,
yet people prefer the side paths.
Be aware when things are out of balance.
Stay centered within the Tao. When rich speculators prosper
While farmers lose their land;
when government officials spend money
on weapons instead of cures;
when the upper class is extravagant and irresponsible
while the poor have nowhere to turn-
all this is robbery and chaos.
It is not in keeping with the Tao.

Scripture Reading by Nancy Larsen
John
13:31-35
When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Human one has been glorified, and God has been glorified in them. If God has been glorified in them, God will also at once glorify them. Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Sermon by Pastor Walter Lockhart

We need last-minute volunteers for a phone bank tonight, May 16th, 8-10 pm, to support No Más Muertes/No More Deaths, a humanitarian aid group that supplies food and water to people migrating through the desert of southern AZ. No More Deaths has personally reached out to First Universalist in a time of need—you may have heard that nine of their volunteers have been criminally charged for this life-saving volunteer work (charges range from “littering” to harboring undocumented migrants). One of them, Scott Warren, faces a felony trial this month. Long story short, Warren provided food, water, clothes, and shelter to two migrants, and is now looking at 20 years in prison.
No More Deaths has asked us to host a phone bank to support them in the weeks leading up to the trial—this would mean calling people in targeted southern AZ communities, talking to them about the charges, asking them to support the organization by putting up yard signs, etc. If you are able, please join us tonight at 2221 26th Ave S, from 8-10 pm (or any amount of time you can!). Send an email RSVP to ju.jones1515@gmail.com and more details will be sent. ited Methodist Church
