Know the male, yet keep to the female: receive the world in your arms.
If you receive the world, the Tao will never leave you and you will be like a little child.
Know the white, yet keep to the black: be a pattern for the world.
If you are a pattern for the world, the Tao will be strong inside you and there will be nothing you can’t do.
Know the personal, yet keep to the impersonal: accept the world as it is.
If you accept the world, the Tao will be luminous inside you and you will return to your primal self.
The world is formed from the void, like utensils from a block of wood.
The Master knows the utensils, yet keeps to the block: thus she can use all things.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 17:1-9 by Greg Garman
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!”
When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Mardi Gras: Tues, Feb 28 is Mardi Gras and the night of our regular community meal. For the 3rd year in a row we’re offering Fat Tuesday pancakes and New Orleans Style Jazz by Store Bought Hair– a traditional 6 piece band featuring our own Joe Hesla on clarinet and David West on tenor banjo. Meal service is at 6 (often earlier for the lucky and hungry) upstairs and the music starts at 6:30 downstairs with a parade. Bring your beads, parasols and masks. Dancing, singing and all manner of indulgences are encouraged. FFI David West

Sunday Celebration March 12: Join Amoke Kubat for her first in a series of “Sunday Talks–These times got me feeling ‘so much something’ that I’m ready to shout 4 letter words in church!”
Bishop Ough speaking on immigration: Sun, Mar 12, 4 pm at Park Avenue UMC, 3400 Park Av So. The bulk of the program will be in Spanish, but we will translate Bishop Ough’s remarks into English. The purpose of the gathering is to invite our neighbors from the immigrant community (who are experiencing severe stress in light of recent events) to hear from our faith leader a word of encouragement, solidarity and support. Oganized by Iglesia Pieddra Viva, sponsored by Walker Community UMC, Simpson UMC, etc.
Science Fiction Book Sale: Saturday, March 18, 10 am to 4 pm at Walker Community Church, 3104 16th Avenue South, Mpls 55407. Sale includes paperbacks, magazines & hard cover from the 1940’s, 50’s, 60’s and newer. Almost 2000 books! If you have books to donate to the sale or questions contact Ed Ed Mueller 612-205-6352.

Improvisation Movement & Reader’s Group: Sundays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26, 12:30 to 1:30pm in the sanctuary. The group will be led by Janet Skidmore. Bring a favorite poem, scripture, or other reading. You can either read or move, or do both if you want. FFI Janet
Rapid Response Team
The Peace with Justice Committee has formed a Rapid Response Team monitoring Congressional activity. If you are interested in being part of a coordinated group effort committed to calling and emailing their Federal and State Senators and Representatives on key legislation, hearings, and other congressional business contact Allyson Hayward or Deb Ramage
Church Council 2017
The Church Council is the decision making body of the church that furthers the mission to nurture spirituality, build caring community and work courageously for peace with justice and mercy.
- The council makes all financial decisions and sets policies.
- It is the fiscal body of the church.
- It plays the role of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
- All staff members are ex-officio members of the council with voice but may not be full members.
- When the Council goes into executive session to deal with personnel issues the SPRC chair leads the meetings and separate minutes are prepared.
- Council minutes are public, SPRC minutes are private.

Buildings and Grounds committee
A Building and Grounds committee implements church policy and has the authority to care for the physical needs of the church or other duties assigned by the Council. It implements a budget set by the Church Council. Anyone is welcome to be a part of the Building and Grounds Committee. Staff participate as needed.
Ed Ed Mueller, Al Hildenbrand, and Wayne Bailey are responsible for convening the committee and reporting to the council. Everyone in the community is invited to participate in this committee.
Finance committee
A finance committee monitors and insures the integrity of the finances, builds the budget, and arranges for fundraisers. Everyone in the community is invited to participate in this committee.
