Opening Smudge

Lao Tzu # 34 Steven Mitchell followed by 5 minutes of silence

The great Tao flows everywhere.
All things are born from it, yet it doesn’t create them.
It pours itself into its work, yet it makes no claim.
It nourishes infinite worlds, yet it doesn’t hold on to them.
Since it is merged with all things and hidden in their hearts, it can be called humble.
Since all things vanish into it and it alone endures, it can be called great.
It isn’t aware of its greatness; thus it is truly great.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 8 by Char Kane

Who are we? Many-Named One beyond imagining–When I contemplate the night sky, the cosmos which all unfolded from a speck, galaxies, stars, this beautiful earth—Who are we humans, that you attend to us? Mere mortals in our tiny corner, and you love us?
We are life come to knowing and feeling. The whole world is in our hands. plants and animals, oceans and ice caps, rain forests atmosphere and ecosystem.
Touch our hearts, O God, make us worthy of this trust. Help us care for life on this beautiful earth.

Announcements

Please save your good condition used items for the Walker Rummage Sale.  We can use clothing, furniture, household items, jewelry, luggage, toys, books, linens, small appliances, and other items.  Please no computers, TVs, or mattresses. It’s our biggest fundraiser, and we made over $7,000 last year to support our mission.

Rummage Sale Set up begins Monday, April 18

If rummage is left in the church before then, we will have to discard it, which can cost the church money for an extra waste pickup.  There is no space in the church that is not already being used for our activities.  (Please do not bring rummage on Sunday, April 17 as The Story will have their services and Sunday school in the entire building starting at 2 pm.)

Preferably bring it between 9 AM and 8 PM on Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 19.  Volunteers will be at the church then to receive your clean, usable items.  Starting Wednesday, the volunteers will be fully occupied in organizing and pricing, and will not have time to sort additional contributions.  Any questions can be emailed to Lulu

Sunday Meditation Group

The weekly Sunday morning Walker Meditation Group has had a long and varied history.  Over the past 25 years that I’ve been involved, it has been facilitated by a number of dedicated Walker folks like Roberta Hodges, Doug Rosenquist, and Nancy Larsen.   It has played a vital role in my own spiritual growth.  What I really like about the group is its circle format in which a talking piece is passed around while participants can share their thoughts and feelings without being interrupted.

Unfortunately, due to a variety of circumstances, group attendance has fallen off sharply over the past few months.  In light of this, I would like to facilitate the group for now and be the “go-to” person to make sure that we can continue to meet.

The meditation group will continue to meet from 9 – 10 am Sunday mornings in the meditation room at the rear of the church.  We will devote the first twenty minutes to a silent mindfulness meditation practice.  This will be followed by brief check-ins during which a talking piece is passed around and participants can share their joys and concerns, as well as any thoughts about their meditation practice.   After the check-ins,   there is an open discussion.   People are also invited to share any prayer requests.   Depending on group interest,  we may end with an Ohming circle.    I do hope that there is a renewed interest in this long-time invaluable Walker resource.  If you have any further questions about the group or would like to take part, please feel free to contact Tony Wentersorf

Rosen Movement Classes at Walker Church

My Wednesday morning Rosen movement class continues at Walker Church. I would love for you to come and experience this gentle movement approach with a great group of people. Please consider joining on Wednesday mornings from 9-10am at Walker Church, Minneapolis in the sanctuary.  A free introductory class is available to anyone who would like to try this Rosen class.  The cost is $5-$10, on a sliding fee scale. Six class packages $25-$50 (if the cost is a deterrent please contact me to discuss options). This class is ongoing, one hour, weekly.

You are welcome to sign up ahead or drop in ANYTIME.  Rosen Movement offers a simple and effective hour of movement with music that is designed to keep the joints healthy, invite body awareness, improve alignment, relax muscles, and expand the breath! Classes are offered in an atmosphere of camaraderie, creating a feeling of well-being and relaxation in order to prevent physical difficulties and support aging gracefully.

Plan to wear comfortable clothing. In Rosen we usually go barefooted or wear socks. If you or a friend are interested or have questions contact me (contact info below) or just come to a class.
