Lao Tzu # 1 Witter Brynner translation followed by 5 minutes of silence
Existence is beyond the power of words to define:
Terms may be used but are none of them absolute.
In the beginning of heaven and earth there were no words,
words came out of the womb of matter;
and whether a man dispassionately sees to the core of life
or passionately sees the surface,
the core and the surface are essentially the same,
words making them seem different only to express appearance.
If name be needed, wonder names them both:
From wonder into wonder existence opens.
Welcome, Announcements & Offering
Scripture Reading Matthew 5:21-24 by Greg Garman
“You have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, ‘You shall not murder’; and ‘whoever murders shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment; and if you insult a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council; and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell of fire. So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.

Janet Skidmore performing with the Twin Cities Cabaret Artists Network: Sat, Oct 17, 8 pm at the Town House, 1415 University Avenue West, in St. Paul. TCCAN (Pronounced Tee-See-Can) is a member organization devoted to bringing the art of cabaret to the Twin Cities. Cabaret is performed by vocalists who relate personal stories through song interpretation. Attuned to the intimacy of the moment, each singer creates a unique connection with the audience through words and music. Accompanied by Steven Hobert on the piano, music ranges from jazz standards and musical theater songs to songs by contemporary songwriters and even an occasional opera song. Performers for this month’s salon also include Erin Livingston, and the trio of Dorothy Doring, Connie Dussl, and Vicky Mountain. The performance takes place in the lounge at the rear of the Town House, which is an 18+ venue. Cover at the Town House is waived for the salon audience, but a suggested donation of $10 is collected in the lounge. A full bar and snacks are available for purchase.

Pick out a handmade bowl for your meal, enjoy visiting with your neighbors, and when you leave, take your bowl home with you – now empty – as a reminder that you’ve done some-thing good to help your neighbors.
Powderhorn Empty Bowls supports Walker Church’s Tuesday Community Meal, Division of Indian Work Food Shelf, MN Food Share gardening, Youth Farm’s Powderhorn work, Sister’s Camelot, and Powderhorn Park’s work to feed kids when schools are closed.
