If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone and doesn’t find fault. But when you ask, you must believe. You must not doubt. That’s because a person who doubts is like a wave of the sea. The wind blows and tosses them around…
Every good and perfect gift is from God. This kind of gift comes down from the Father who created the heavenly lights. These lights create shadows that move. But the Father does not change like these shadows. God chose to give us new birth through the message of truth. He wanted us to be the first harvest of his new creation…
So get rid of everything that is sinful. Get rid of the evil that is all around us. Don’t be too proud to accept the word that is planted in you. It can save you. Don’t just listen to the word. You fool yourselves if you do that. You must do what it says.
Suppose people think their beliefs and how they live are both right. But they don’t control what they say. Then they are fooling themselves. Their beliefs and way of life are not worth anything at all. Here are the beliefs and way of life that God our Father accepts as pure and without fault. When widows are in trouble, take care of them. Do the same for children who have no parents. And don’t let the world make you impure.

Starting Labor Day Sunday, September 6, Walker UMC Sunday Celebration will begin at 10:30AM. The format will continue with community singing beginning our time together from 10:30-11AM. The celebration will end by noon. This change is necessary to allow Pastor Lockhart to lead services at both Simpson UMC and Walker UMC. Simpson is also moving their service to accommodate the sharing of a pastor.
Labor Day Sunday Celebration: September 6, 10:30 am. With guest speaker Kip Hedges of 15 NOW speaking. Kip is theformer baggage handler fired by Delta Airlines for his union activities.

The Fall Rummage Sale starts Thursday, October 1. Set up starts Monday, September 28. If you would like to help make decisions about how to run the sale, stay after church on Sunday (in the park). Here are some sample items we should talk about:
- what kind of banner to have made for the outside of the church,
- what kind of big sturdy signs to make for the neighborhood,
- whether to sell baked goods or other food,
- will we have pick-up service,
- where will we take the leftover usable items,
- what price to set on the items that aren’t individually priced (I raised some of the prices this spring),
- do we want to buy a tagging gun,
- whether we need to reserve the sanctuary for Monday, October 5 in case cleanup hasn’t finished yet,
- how much dollar credit should volunteers get for their work, and
- what format should we use for the Procedures Manual that I will be drafting (electronic shared, 3-ring binder, laminated single page?).
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pippa Carlson in the death of her mother. The Memorial Service will be held Sat, Auf 29, 1 pm at East Side Freedom Library, 1105 Greenbriar St in St Paul. FFI Pippa
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kelly Waterman in the sudden deaths of her sister and niece in a car crash on Sunday, August 16. Kelly & family are gathering in New York. (See also Kelly’s post on the Walker Community United Methodist Church Facebook page.)
Tony Wentersdorf has qualified for the Semi-finals of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest (in the Open category) for the second year in a row. He will be playing OVER THE RAINBOW on his autoharp on the big outdoor stage near the Space Needle on Thursday September 3rd sometime after 6 p.m. The talent contest finalists get to play at the Grandstand Sunday evening September 6th.
Artists! Mark your calendar for the 2015 Walker Church Holiday Art Fair, Saturday, November 21, 10 am to 4 pm & Sunday, November 22, noon to 4 pm. No booth fee, donate 15% of proceeds to Walker Church.

Fireroast Mountain Boys: Friday, August 28, 7 to 9 pm at Zeke’s Unchained Animal, 3508 East Lake Street Minneapolis. August 29th is apparently the first of three Super Moons this year when the full moon coincides with the moon’s perigee. That’s all the excuse we need to celebrate. Join us in singing our corny moon songs at our favorite local pub.- David West
